Tell Me Baby

The concept of Love Languages is something that I find really interesting and relevant to my life. I know that everyone gives and receives love and caring in different ways. I have discovered over time that my primary Love Language is Words of Affirmation. Because this is my best received love, it is the way I best deliver love, or at least find the most natural to do so. However, for some people, the best received love is not the one most naturally delivered.

Being in various relationships in my day-to-day life means that I interact with people I truly love but do not communicate in their best understood Love Language. I felt the need to make my love needs known so that there was better communication and relationship growth with who I am and who I care about most. Being aware of each others language means we can support ourselves and others best. I love this chart because it speaks so true to my love needs. I don’t deal well with criticism and having encouragers and positive verbal reinforcement makes me feel valued.

All this being said, I do not expect everyone I meet to treat me the way I need to be treated. It is not possible for anyone to adapt to everyones Love Language, but for those relationships that affect your spirit and contribute to your future self, it is nice to be aware of what is best understood and how that person loves. I recommend talking to your significant other about it, you may know how they give love but the receiving may be different than you expect. Take some time to explore your love and the love you get from others.

Whisper Them If You Must

When you share your secrets they aren’t secrets anymore.

It can be scary but it can be freeing.

It can connect you to others, or best of all, connect you to yourself.

If It Gets Cold – And It Will

LAST PICNIC
by Charles Simic

Before the fall rains come,
Let’s have one more picnic,
Now that the leaves are turning color
And the grass is still green in places.

Bread, cheese and some black grapes
Ought to be enough,
And a bottle of red wine to toast the crows
Puzzled to find us sitting here.

If it gets cold—and it will—I’ll hold you close.
Night will come early.
We’ll watch the sky, hoping for a full moon
To light our way home.

And if there isn’t one, we’ll put all our trust
In your book of matches
And my sense of direction
As we grope our way in the dark.

A Thursday Breaky

Today I was treated to breakfast. I ordered the most delicious latte I have ever had… I am not kidding. It was the bomb, the bomb diggity.

Like the perfect coffee to soy ratio, a beautiful little layer of foam crowning the top…

I also had really good company and a lovely order of cinnamon toast to top off the superbity of the most important meal of the day. After we ate we walked. We window shopped, we chatted, we enjoyed being outside. Then we walked home and spent the afternoon just hanging out until the breakfast buyer had to get to work.

Tears, Shoulders, Paint, & Gratitude

Have you ever had someone (or someones) believe in you no matter what? I really hope you have. It is a wonderful feeling and something that I wish for every person to experience at least once – even if only for a little while. I have some great people in my life – family, friends, friends that are pretty much family. I also have a human, who I can call my partner, who is willing to support me through some stuff that I think is not so easy to deal with, but he just says he is here and that I can just know he is supporting me, that he wants to be someone I can look to. I cried. If you know me at all, the fact that I was crying should not be that surprising. But still, my tears often speak when I don’t have the words for it. My mom told me that there is reason that he has broad shoulders, to be there to lean on. I think she is right about that.

And I have a great friend who is supportive of my art to the point of paying me for a painting. I am quite surprised by this to say the least. It is very flattering to be regarded as an artist worth requesting a painting from, let alone wanting to pay for it.
